For town, take a hybrid: the Toyota Yaris Cross, Corolla Cross or Nissan Kicks e-Power. If there are six or seven of you, the Honda BR-V has 7 seats. The premium models in the class are the Mercedes-Benz GLC and BMW X3. The manager will suggest a model for your route and budget.

What fuel consumption do the crossovers have?

Fuel works on a full-to-full basis: the car is handed over with a full tank and returned the same way, so you only pay for what you use. PTT, Shell and Bangchak stations are all over the island.
Can I drive a crossover outside Phuket?

Yes, the insurance covers three provinces: Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi. A crossover will take you to Phang Nga Bay, Khao Lak or the beaches of Ao Nang. Trips to other regions of Thailand need the manager’s approval. Before a long drive, check the fuel and tyre pressure and take your original documents: there are police checkpoints on the highways.
Is a deposit required for a crossover?

No, if you take full insurance: it is sold on rentals of 7 days or more and removes both the deposit and the excess. Basic insurance with a ฿5,000 excess is included in the price; with it you leave a refundable deposit of ฿7,000–30,000 for this class (the exact amount is on the car page). The deposit is returned in full if the car comes back without new damage; its condition is photographed at handover and return.
