How Do You Get from Phuket Airport to Your Hotel?
From Phuket Airport to your hotel you can go by taxi, Grab, bus or your own car; Patong, Karon and Kata are a 40–60 minute drive. A taxi costs ฿800–1200, Grab is usually cheaper, a shared minibus is about ฿180–250 per person, and the ฿100 bus runs to Phuket Town or along the west coast to Rawai. If you need a car for the whole holiday, it is handed over right at HKT airport: rental from ฿1,180 a day, with free pickup.
In short
- Taxi from the terminal to Patong, Karon or Kata: ฿800–1200 one way.
- The bus costs ฿100: the Smart Bus runs along the west-coast beaches to Rawai, the Airport Bus to Phuket Town; neither runs late at night.
- Grab is usually cheaper than a taxi, but pickup depends on demand and time of day.
- The northern beaches are 10–20 minutes away, the southern resorts 40–60 minutes.
- A car is handed over right at the airport: rental from ฿1,180 a day, pickup and return at HKT cost ฿0.
Where is the airport, and how far are the beaches?
Phuket International Airport (HKT) is in the north of the island. Patong, Karon, Kata and Rawai are 40–60 minutes away depending on traffic; the northern beaches (Nai Yang, Naithon, Mai Khao) are 10–20 minutes.
There are five options: a taxi from the rank, Grab, a shared minibus, the bus, and a car handed over right at the airport. The choice depends on your arrival time, your luggage and whether you will need transport after check-in.

Airport (HKT) RentalWhat does each way from the airport cost?
Prices and times in the table are to the southern resorts: Patong, Karon and Kata. The northern beaches are closer, and a taxi there costs less.
| Option | Price one way | Travel time | At night |
|---|---|---|---|
| Taxi from the rank | ฿800–1200 | 40–60 minutes | Ranks run around the clock |
| Grab | Usually cheaper than a taxi, more at rush hour | 40–60 minutes plus the wait for pickup | Longer wait for pickup |
| Shared minibus | ฿180–250 per person | 1–1.5 hours with hotel drop-offs | Leaves once it fills up |
| Bus | ฿100 to any stop | 1.5–2 hours to Patong, Karon and Kata | No service late at night |
| Your own car | From ฿1,180 a day, pickup at HKT ฿0 | 40–60 minutes | Handover time agreed when booking |
How much is a taxi or Grab from the airport?
A taxi from the terminal to the southern resorts costs about ฿800–1200 one way. Taxi ranks run around the clock, prices are fixed by zone and haggling rarely helps. Grab is usually cheaper but not always available at the airport: supply depends on demand and time of day, and prices rise at rush hour.
Both cover only the transfer. The next day's trips to the beach, to dinner and back are paid for again, and over a week the total exceeds the cost of renting a car for the same period.
- Taxi to Patong, Karon, Kata: ฿800–1200
- Grab: cheaper, but not always available
- At night the taxi rank is the most reliable option
Is there a bus from Phuket Airport?
Yes, there are two buses, and a ticket on either costs ฿100. The Phuket Smart Bus runs along the west coast through Bang Tao, Surin, Kamala, Patong, Karon and Kata to Rawai; you can pay in cash, by QR or with a Rabbit card. The Airport Bus only goes to Phuket Town. Both run in the daytime and evening, roughly once an hour.
It is the cheapest option and also the slowest: the bus takes about 1.5 hours to Patong and about two to Kata, and from the stop you still have to walk to the hotel with your suitcase. After a night flight with children, the saving wears you out. The bus suits someone travelling light and staying near a stop.
- Smart Bus to the west-coast beaches and Rawai: ฿100
- Airport Bus to Phuket Town: ฿100
- No buses late at night
Is there a shared minibus or a pre-booked transfer?
Both. A seat in a shared minibus to Patong, Karon or Kata costs about ฿180–250 per person, and you buy the ticket at a counter in the airport. The minibus leaves once it fills up and drops everyone at their hotels, so the trip takes 1–1.5 hours.
A private transfer is booked in advance: the driver meets you with a name sign, and a car to Patong for up to four people costs from ฿700. A transfer arranged by the hotel is usually dearer, ฿1,500–2,500. These prices come from 2026 travel guides and vary by season.
Both only cover the ride to the hotel. If you will need a car from the next day, it is simpler to pick one up at the terminal.
- Shared minibus: ฿180–250 per person
- Pre-booked transfer: from ฿700 per car to Patong
- Hotel transfer: usually ฿1,500–2,500
When does it pay to pick up a car at the airport?
When you need transport beyond the hotel. A car from the airport covers the transfer and every trip after it: rental from ฿1,180 a day, with free pickup and return at HKT airport. The contract is signed on the spot, and then you drive your own route, with a supermarket stop if you need one. You can return the car there on the day you fly out.
A taxi to the hotel and back costs ฿1600–2400. Everything you drive between arrival and departure costs only petrol in your own car, roughly ฿150–250 a day.
How the terminal handover works, what happens if your flight is delayed and how to return the car when you leave is covered on the Phuket Airport car rental page. The petrol guide helps estimate fuel.
- Car at the airport: from ฿1,180 a day
- The contract is signed on the spot, no trip into town
- Return at the airport on departure day
